I've done it all - spray bottle, squirt gun, coins in a can, yelling NO, clapping, etc. Those never work well.

What’s one thing you’ve tried to stop your cat from doing—like jumping on counters or scratching the couch—that didn’t work out the way you hoped?

My boy kitty always “steals” my desk chair that I use for working from home. As soon as I get up for a few minutes, he gets up on the chair and takes a nap. We have an extra desk chair that is very similar. So I moved it into the room, near me. Now when I need to sit in my chair, I can pick him up and put him in “his” chair and he happily goes back to sleep.

Scott, before I forget,I said I would let you know how my senior kitties liked the sardines as toppers...all three love them! I've also been reducing their dry food intake slowly...thanks for the info and advice.
