David is the TOP CAT today.

However, things were different in 1961. Cultural reference drop:

Hah, love it Tom! I feel like there’s a story in that 1961 reference… you’re gonna have to help me out here. 😸 Who was David and what did he do to earn “Top Cat” status??

Eeek. I’m sorry to have done a mashup of two readings. First, your “Golden Whiskers.” Then, I was perusing David Nam’s “Helpful Cats.” I think he (not you) used the oft-heard phrase “Top Cat.” As a 1960s kid, I don’t think of a specific behavior. I recall the specific CHARACTER. The cartoon ran in that sole season. However, reruns have kept it alive for decades.

The cat character was a creative, sneaky feline version of Yogi Bear. The cop on the beat (their alley) got outsmarted by Top Cat and his pals often, but they all remained friends at the end of each cartoon.

Totally agree—Elizabeth’s story really brings it home. Diet and gut health are foundational, and it’s amazing how often they’re overlooked. Love that you tried sautéed mushrooms for immune support! I haven’t experimented with that yet, but now I’m curious. And yes—rotating proteins is such an underrated strategy. Thanks for sharing this. We need more voices like yours in the mix! 🐾
