I Was a Day Late… and It Taught Me Something Important
Turns out slowing down was exactly what I needed.
💛 Hey Golden Whiskers Family,
I know this is usually your Sunday morning email, but it’s Monday.
And that’s okay.
Because if there’s one thing the last few months have taught me—from putting together Tails on Trails to recording my latest podcast episode, “The Lesson My Cats Just Taught Me About Slowing Down”—it’s that rushing doesn’t make life more meaningful.
Sometimes, the most important lessons show up when you finally stop hurrying.
🌿 The Lesson My Cats Keep Teaching Me
After Tails on Trails, I felt like my whole body exhaled.
The event was everything I hoped it would be—beautiful, emotional, and community-filled.
But afterward, the quiet hit hard. For weeks I’d been living in motion, and suddenly, there was stillness.
That’s when Niko and Milo stepped in as my teachers again.
They nap in sunny spots without guilt.
They stretch before moving.
They trust that what matters will still be there when they wake up.
They remind me that rest isn’t the opposite of productivity—it’s what gives everything else meaning.
💭 What I’ve Learned About Purpose
Purpose doesn’t live in the busy work or the perfect plans.
It lives in the quiet moments in between—the pause before the next project, the morning coffee before emails, the five minutes of stillness before bed.
For me, this year has been one long reminder that purpose isn’t something to chase—it’s something to notice.
When I stop rushing to “what’s next,” I can actually feel what I’ve already created.
I can remember why I started Golden Whiskers in the first place.
To honor the love I shared with Mia and Nomar.
To help others care for and cherish the time they have with their cats.
To remind people that meaning doesn’t have to be loud.
☕ This Week’s Practice
If you’re feeling the pressure to always be moving, building, or producing—try this:
Pause before reacting. Let silence be your first response.
Find one small ritual of rest. Sit in the sun with your cat, step outside barefoot, or breathe without a timer.
Let meaning catch up to motion. You’ve done enough for today.
You don’t have to earn your rest.
You just have to remember you deserve it.
🐾 Cattitude Prompt
Where in your life are you rushing toward the next thing—when what you really need is to slow down?
Hit reply, or comment below, and tell me what “rest” looks like for you this week. Maybe it’s a nap with your cat. Maybe it’s doing absolutely nothing. Either way, I’d love to hear about it.

🌅 Final Thought
Being a day late with this newsletter feels right. Because it’s not really late—it’s just human.
And maybe that’s the real lesson my cats are teaching me: The world doesn’t fall apart when you take your time.
Sometimes, that’s when the best parts of life finally show up.
